"The Power of Imagery"

Within my work, I have some recurring themes of interest: to question how objects and landscape contain memory and how we can invest them to share these stories.  Along with the beauty and value of the environment.  I also have a focus within my practice on death and how we share the process of grieving.  I have explored and made projects on this theme in Scotland, Canada and Mexico. I examine the boundaries between public and private experience.

My current artistic practice is in performance using storytelling, audio, object and in festival /community event making. My focus is on integrating community involvement, working inter-generationally and on creating engaging indoor and outdoor events. I work with traditional storytelling and oral history alongside object creation, digital and web-based technology.

I work as a multidisciplinary artist and have an ongoing freelance practice – in storytelling, theatre, performance, digital media creation and curating, arts event and fringe festival creation.

Since 2012, I have annually created the Portskerra International Storytelling Festival with the support of the Scottish Storytelling Centre, in Edinburgh.  I have created two outdoor audio art walks with stories recorded with my local community:  Portskerra/Melvich Stories 1 & 2.

Alex is a member of Equity and of the Scottish Artist Union.
